Filling the long vacant space next to Metropolitan Seafood on Route 22 in Lebanon, NJ is Sunken Silo Brew Works.
A local New Jersey brewery!
(Caveat: We’re not beer aficionados. At least not anymore. We actually like beer a lot – but choose not to drink so many carbohydrates. A truly personal decision!)
Sunken Silo Brew Works is certainly local
We swung by a few weeks before their anticipated opening (which should be any day now) and spoke with the Managing Partner on-hand (who is the brewmaster).
Himself, the founder Jeff (who also co-owns Staiano’s Furniture in Califon, NJ), and a couple others run this local brewery.
So this is basically the “home base,” the “factory,” and the “production facility” for Sunken Silo beer. They will also have a 14-seat bar, plus several high-top tables in their “tasting room.” Any casual observer will see that this can easily also be called a bar. Which is fine. New Jersey has some odd-ball laws that kind of keep local breweries a bit hog-tied when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Of course, they will allow “BYOF” (“bee-yoff”), or in other words – you can bring your own food – or conveniently order from next door.
We still support local businesses like this and hope they succeed. We may even “Take one for the team” from time to time, and gulp down a pint every now and then.
The beer industry is huge – and the craft beer market is getting more and more crowded by the week. It’s even possible that the big brands (Bud, Coors, etc.) may eventually just be gone. That’s our midnight prediction, at least.
