Buddha Board Review – a great holiday gift {VLOG}
In today’s NJroute22.com VLOG – we’re going to talk about a very interesting “artistic” product called Buddha Board.
The Buddha Board is basically a blank grey canvas that you “paint” on. With plain water.
The surface turns black with water contact.
The catch (or real purpose) is – that as the water evaporates – whatever image you create – just goes away.
That is the point of this Zen/Buddhist concept. To embrace the now. It’s what our favorite author Alan Watts always said. There is no past. There is no future. There is only and always NOW.
We tried this with our kids – and they liked it. They’re a bit too young to understand that deep philosophical stuff. But to a small degree, they do understand the obvious at least.
Each comes with its own brush and a place to put water. Three sizes to choose from. Click any link to learn more.
- A small small “travel size” unit (5″ square) for about $15 or $16
- A medium-sized “ENSO” foldable unit made of aluminum (about 10″ square) for $25
- And the largest size (about 12″x10″) – which stands on a base for $35
We think these are great gifts – and good practice at living in the now.
But keep in mind that the instructions say to be conservative with the amount of water, as it can damage the surface. Our kids went nuts and painted (read: SOAKED) a few of them completely with water – and the surface buckled a little. So know upfront that if you have very young children that don’t listen – there is a fair chance these things will get destroyed quickly.
Luckily they’re inexpensive.
Hope you like them!
